5 Tips for Building an Impressive Product Page

Because happy users become loyal customers, you want your audience to have a great user experience when they land on your page. They should find it both engaging and easy to navigate. Consider these five expert tips on how to make an impressive product page:

1. Have a consistent layout
Your product page should have the same look and design as the other pages of your website. All products—bestsellers or not—should have a uniform layout. Additionally, consider creating a cohesive user experience for your customers, whether they are browsing through their laptops, tablets, or phones. Having a consistent layout across all pages and devices will make users remember your brand more effectively.

2. Make your product details brief and understandable
You may want to say a lot about a particular product, but keep in mind that a lengthy text does not always mean better. Users did not click on a product to read a novel of details. In this case, less is more. Ideally, your product page should contain a large photo of the item, a short header on top of the page, and a detailed writeup on the bottom.

If you need to put a lot of information about the item, break up your copy into smaller paragraphs. If you think that more details are necessary, try making a separate page and linking it to a “more information” tab.

Aside from making your copy short and sweet, you should also make sure that it is understandable. Write it in plain English and check for spelling or grammatical errors.

3. Highlight important details—including reviews
While a short copy is ideal, it should be accurate at the same time. Include all the essential information about your product to help your customers choose carefully. Make sure product variants, such as colours and sizes, are stated clearly and labelled appropriately.

It also helps to put consumer reviews on your product page. By doing so, your customers will know that you value their opinions and that you are transparent in your transactions. 

4. Display your call-to-action buttons prominently
A product page should ultimately drive sales to your business. Help your customers complete their purchases by making your “Add to Cart” button conveniently visible. Make the button big enough so they can easily see it, but subtle enough, so they don’t feel like you’re forcing them to buy. A “Buy Now” button is also helpful because it speeds up the buying process for a customer. 

5. Consider mobile optimization
Beyond having high-resolution photos of your products, your image galleries should also be responsive. Zoomable and swipeable pictures are best, so your buyers can look at the items up close even if they cannot see them in actual. Additionally, consider how your images appear in smaller screens. Because most consumers are now on their smartphones 24/7, mobile optimization is crucial for all e-commerce businesses. All photos and product information you post on your desktop site should be included in the mobile site.
